Description:

The Environmental Education Center (EEC) is a sustainable, green venue including a LEED Platinum certified education building, backyard compost demonstration site, renewable energy technologies, rainwater harvesting systems, and two distinctive garden settings with a  creek running alongside.  The Texas Smartscape Garden is a lovely natural area landscaped with native and adapted plants that work well in local residential landscapes.  The meandering paths allow visitors the opportunity to experience the different plant specimens as they grow naturally and to visualize them in  home landscapes.  The Nature Explore Classroom  is desgned for young children to interact in hands-on ways with nature.  The play and exploratory features are designed around areas with specific purposes such as Nature Art, Movement and Music, Messy Materials, Climbing and Crawling, Building, Gardening and Water play.  Large pavestone patios with benches make this a great location for picnics and reflective time.  The gardens are colorful, fun and educational.

Tours of the building can be scheduled, as well as educational programs.  The EEC may also be rented out for private events.
